Eagle-eyed NFL fans slam ‘woke’ NBC for graphic comparing Commanders QBs Jayden Daniels to Robert Griffin III

Angry NFL fans took to social media to slam NBC for how the broadcaster marked Jayden Daniels eclipsing Robert Griffin III’s rushing record on Sunday night.

Daniels led his Commanders to a playoff-clinching 30-24 win over Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night and clinched a landmark achievement of his own on the way to victory.

The rookie quarterback ran for 127 yards, taking him to a tally of 867 for the season and overtaking the record Griffin etched out in his 2012 debut season at 815 yards.

As NBC showed a graphic comparing the two, eagle-eyed fans noticed that NBC removed the ‘Redskins’ logo from Griffin’s jersey.

The team rebranded in 2020, succumbing to years-long pressure by dropping ‘Redskins,’ which is considered offensive to Native Americans. In 2021, the team played as the Washington Football Team before later becoming the Commanders.

‘Imagine being so ‘progressive’ you edit history in real-time. NBC airbrushing the Redskins logo off RG3’s jersey is peak clown show,’ one unhappy fan wrote on X. ‘If you’re offended by a graphic, wait till you hear about how inflation’s ruining real life.’

Another NFL fan who took to social media wrote: ‘NBC erasing the Redskins logo is a perfect example of cultural erasure.

‘Woke ideology doesn’t stop at renaming mascots—it’s about rewriting history, erasing heritage, and imposing ideological control. This is war on tradition.’

A different viewer said: ‘Woke NBC thinks they’re too good for the Redskins’ name. Newsflash: censorship doesn’t make you virtuous, it makes you a coward.

‘Free speech means respecting all opinions, not editing out what offends you. What’s next, rewriting history books? Let’s stand up against this PC nonsense and celebrate our freedom of expression!’

Earlier this year, the family of the man depicted in the Redskins logo said they wanted him to be returned to the team crest.

‘The fans want him back and we want him back,’ Thomas White Calf, a great nephew of late Blackfeet Nation chief John Two Guns White Calf, after meeting with Senator Steve Daines (Republican, Montana).

‘Our ancestor was the most famous and most pH๏τographed native in history. Two Guns was also the face on the Indian head nickel. I’m proud of him. The Blackfeet are proud of him.’

The term’s origin is disputed, according to a 2016 Washington Post article that claims it was first used as a pejorative as early as 1863 in Minnesota.

Daniels, meanwhile, has been the standout quarterback from the rookie class in 2024 after the Commanders drafted him with the second pick in the NFL Draft earlier this year.

The team rounds out the regular season on Sunday at Dallas Cowboys before their first playoff appearance since 2020 the following weekend.
