Malik Nabers, Tyrone Tracy make rookie history in Giants’ win to continue promising seasons

He is a confident guy, but Tyrone Tracy admitted that he did not expect this.

He did not expect to team up with Malik Nabers to accomplish something that had been done twice before in the NFL, where all data and stats are carefully resourced.

In Sunday’s 45-33 victory over the Colts at MetLife Stadium, Tracy and Nabers became only the third rookie duo in NFL history to each surpᴀss 1,000 yards from scrimmage in their first season.

“I ain’t gonna lie,’’ Tracy said. “I’ve been doing this for a long time, I’ve been playing football since I was three, I’ve never thought I’d be a part of NFL history, you know what I’m saying? You talk about even when I was doing good you don’t really understand the magnitude of it until right now. People tell me you’re literally one of only three that have done it in NFL history, to have my name cemented in something like that, that’s amazing.’’

Nabers reached 1,000 receiving yards with a 31-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter.

Tracy surpᴀssed 1,000 yards from scrimmage with a 40-yard burst in the second quarter.

They became the first rookie teammates with 1,000 yards from scrimmage since 2006, when Reggie Bush and Marques Colston accomplished that feat for the Saints.

The only other teammates to do it were running back Abner Haynes and Johnny Robinson for the Dallas Texans in 1960.

“It’s kudos to him and me that we came out here, come out there in practice, do our job and then come in the game and contribute to help the team win, and do as much as possible so we can win,’’ Nabers said. “Seeing Tyrone go out every day at practice and do the things that he does, it’s amazing. Me and him have been uplifting each other through the season. We had stuff at the beginning of the season that didn’t go our way, but we stayed down with each other, uplifted each other and it’s paying off.’’

Nabers has 104 receptions for 1,140 yards.

Tracy has 780 rushing yards and 277 receiving yards for a total of 1,057 yards from scrimmage.

DL Armon Watts was carted off the field with 9:49 left in the second quarter.

Watts, who recently came off injured reserve, tried to put weight on his left leg and could not as he was helped off the turf by teammate Rakeem Nunez-Roches.

Watts was ruled out with a knee injury.

Nunez-Roches notched his first full sack of the season.

He had two half-sacks in his first 13 games.

Second-year center John Michael Schmitz (ankle) missed his first game of the season after starting the first 15.

He was replaced by veteran Greg Van Roten, who started every game before Sunday at right guard.

With the loss, the Colts (7-9) were eliminated from playoff contention in the AFC — deservedly so, after giving up 45 points to a team that was last in the league in scoring at 14.3 points a game.

“It was as disappointing as it gets,’’ Colts head coach Shane Steichen said.
