Fascinating, coming from Herodotus

Twin Pyramids of Lake Moeris, Egypt
▫ During his brief visit to Egypt in 490 BCE, Herodotus records a tale of long lost twin Egyptian pyramids topped with enormous colossal seated statues. He describes these twin pyramids as being located in the center of an artificial lake created by a ruling figure he calls Moeris.
▫By Herodotus’ own admission, he documented some of the ‘sensational’ tales he could decipher as a foreigner in the very short time he spent in Egypt. He could not read or speak the language of Egypt, therefore his accounts have been regarded as less than accurate.
▫However, Herodotus’ outrageous tales about “Giant Gold Digging Furry Ants of the Far East” have actually been recently verified and explained as real. These gold digging giant furry ants are now actually known to be marmots that are actually still doing this same gold digging to this day.
**(see first comment for more info on this tale of giant furry ants actually being marmots)
▫All too often we dismiss what seem like ridiculous stories, to then later discover some sort of ‘translation’ discrepancy held us back from a revelation. In light of this suggestion i ask then, could there not also be a murmur of potential truth somewhere in this tale of lost twin pyramids topped by colossal statues?
▫Well, as any true Ancient Enthusiast, I hold fast to the fantastic possibility that this tale holds some truth while also fully realizing there will, in all likelihood, never be a way to know for sure.
▫Herodotus’ Tale – 490 BCE
May be an image of 2 people and text that says 'Very rare, pre-1851 engraving of the two pyramids. with colossal figures atop each. Accounted by Herodotus as being located in the center of Lake Moeris, Egypt 490 BCE.'
“The lake, which is called the lake of Moeris, the measure of its circuit is three thousand six hundred furlongs (75 mi/120 km).
. . . The lake lies extended lengthwise from North to South, and in depth where it is deepest it is fifty fathoms. That this lake is artificial and formed by digging is self-evident, for about in the middle of the lake stand two pyramids, each rising above the water to a height of fifty fathoms (300 ft / 91 m), the part which is built below the water being of just the same height; and upon each is placed a colossal statue of stone sitting upon a chair. Thus the pyramids are a hundred fathoms high.
. . . The water in the lake does not come from the place where it is, for the country there is very deficient in water, but it has been brought thither from the Nile by a canal; and for six months the water flows into the lake, and for six months out into the Nile again; and whenever it flows out, then for the six months it brings into the royal treasury a talent of silver a day from the fish which are caught, and twenty pounds when the water comes in. The natives of the place moreover said that this lake had an outlet under ground to the Syrtis which is in Libya, turning towards the interior of the continent upon the Western side and running along by the mountain which is above Memphis.”
