Michelle Obama takes a sneaky swipe at Chicago Bears in Christmas video hours after Caleb Williams's latest debacle

Michelle Obama appeared to take a thinly-veiled dig at Barack Obama’s NFL team in a video shared to Instagram looking ahead to 2025.

She told her followers about the work the couple have been doing with the Obama Foundation on the south side of Chicago but hidden within there seemed to be a dig at the Bears.

‘I know it’s been a difficult few months for so many of us,’ she said, as a man was filmed walking the Bears logo across the back of his jacket. ‘And folks are feeling a little bit anxious and uncertain. But even during these tough times, there are plenty of reasons to stay hopeful.’

Going into a season that promised so much after drafting quarterback Caleb Williams with the first pick, the Bears have endured an awful 2024 campaign and have failed to make the postseason.

Things hit a new low on Thursday night when the Bears lost in Chicago to Seattle Seahawks 6-3, their 10th straight loss of the season.

Fans booed the team off the field and chanted for The McCaskeys, who own the franchise, to sell up.

Williams himself has struggled with the Bears in a season where he has been overshadowed by fellow rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels at the Washington Commanders.

‘It’s my first year. Their frustrations go way longer back than I’ve been here,’ Williams said after the game. ‘My job is to go out there and win games.

‘We don’t focus on the outside noise. The fans, they’re gonna cheer and maybe boo sometimes, and you can’t react to that. It’s not something that we react to.’

Perhaps the most aggravating issue for Bears fans – Obama included – has been the team’s complete collapse after a promising start saw them stand at 4-2.

10 straight losses, and the firing in late November of coach Matt Eberflus, has left the season in ruins.

Even as President, Obama was never shy about showing off his Bears fandom.

In October 2011, he welcomed the 1985 Bears team to the White House to honor their Super Bowl triumph after their visit at the time was postponed due to the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster the following year.

‘This is as much fun as I will have as president of the United States,’ Obama said that day.

Ironically, two months earlier Obama had to welcome the Green Bay Packers – the Bears’ great rivals – to the White House after Aaron Rodgers led them to Super Bowl glory.

‘I’m just gonna come out and say it,’ Obama said. ‘This hurts a little bit.

‘This is a hard thing for a Bears fan to do. It doesn’t hurt as much as the NFC championship game (where the Packers beat the Bears to reach the Super Bowl) hurt, but it still hurts.’

And the Bears round out their season of misery on January 5 against the Packers, who are set for the playoffs.
