A 1,300-year-old female mummy with blue ‘eyes’ has been unearthed by archaeologists excavating the Huaca Pucllana site in Lima , Peru.
The mummy’s mask is the most impressive find in a pyramid excavated by archaeologists and it was located next to two other mummies of adults and a child, which may have been offered as a sacrifice in the burial ceremony of an important person.
It is believed to be a mummy of a woman of aristocratic origin who was found sitting on her knees surrounded by ceramic objects and baskets decorated with textiles.
The female mummy and other finds are expected to reveal evidence and information about the burial customs and culture of the primitive Wari tribe of Peru, which is a precursor to the Incas .
