A giant marbled statue of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius has been unearthed in Turkey.
Archaeologists have found the head, right arm and lower legs of the emperor, portrayed by Richard Harris in the Oscar-winning film Gladiator, in the mountains of southern Turkey.
The partial statue of Aurelius, who reigned from 161AD until his death in 180AD, was found in the largest room at Sagalᴀssos’s Roman baths.The baths, partially destroyed in an earthquake between 540AD and 620AD, have been excavated by archaeologists for the past 12 years.
