Lorraine viewers recently claimed the Scottish TV show host ‘deserves an acting award’ after her ‘hideously unattractive’ portrait was unveiled from show Portrait Artist of the Year.
The televised compeтιтion encourages artists to enter with a self-portrait that they have created within the last five years and they are selected on merit by the panel of expert judges.
But viewers at home were shocked when they saw an unsightly portrait of Lorraine hanging in the National Galleries of Scotland in Edinburgh after an art compeтιтion winner was commissioned to paint her.
The striking painting displays the 65-year-old sitting cross-legged on a high-backed chair, dressed in a vibrant, red tartan coat.
London-born Brogan Bertie, who was given the task of capturing the celebrated TV host on canvas, said: ‘Oh, I found Lorraine’s response so emotional.’
‘Like so much of the worry of doing a portrait is that the subject is going to like it. Or that she’s going to see something of herself in it.’

‘And I think for her to have such an emotional reaction and feel so connected to it immediately felt really special and I couldn’t have asked for more from her.’
Lorraine could then be heard saying in a voiceover: ‘I knew, having seen your other work, I knew it was going to be fantastic.’
The camera then panned to Lorraine, and the TV host could be seen shaking her head as she praised the artist saying: ‘But honestly, this is another league.’
She added: ‘This is just, it’s so special, it really is.’
But viewers were not convinced that Lorraine loved the painting as they took to X, formerly Twitter, to call the host a ‘fine actress’.
One viewer wrote: ‘I mean, she’s a fine actress. That’s her actual job, yes..?’; ‘Lorraine Kelly deserves an Oscar for her acceptance speech. The painting looks af it was probably in an Art Class for 12 year olds.’
‘That portrait is awful, I’d have to put it in the back of the garage covered up so no one else can see it lol’; ‘Her acting skills came in useful’; ‘Another BAFTA for her.’
The portrait of Lorraine is now part of the Scottish national collection and can be viewed for free in the gallery.

It comes after Lorraine shocked fans last month as she revealed her ‘tattoo tribute’ to I’m A Celeb’s Tulisa Contostavlos.
The ITV presenter joked ‘it was painful but worth it’ as she showed off her ‘Female Boss’ artwork.
Tulisa is known for her iconic tattoo and the signature arm gesture which she does to show it off.
While discussing Prince Harry’s comedy sketch in which he appears to be given a tattoo by American musician Jelly Roll, Lorraine showed off her own fake ink.
Cutting back to the host in the studio, she said: ‘I obviously got one this morning too, it was a bit painful but worth it.’
Tulisa hit the headlines back in 2011 when the then X Factor judge was accused of illegally promoting her perfume of the same name when she struck a pose to display her forearm at the start of the show.
And last month was no different when she showed of her iconic ‘Female Boss’ tattoo just minutes into I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
In the opening credits at the start of the show, glamorous Tulisa proudly stuck her arm up.
Fans were quick to pick up on her signature arm gesture and flooded X with comments.

In 2011, the singer said she’d been showing off the inking long before she joined the ITV series and would continue to long afterwards.
She told The Mirror at the time: ‘It’s always been my trademark and it’s always been my nickname.’
Tulisa added: ‘The perfume’s not actually called The Female Boss – it’s just TFB. So someone wouldn’t go into a shop and buy my perfume just because they’d seen my tattoo.
Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV1 from 9am and is available to stream on ITVX.
