Germany is being asked to return the bust of Queen Neferтιтi to Egypt

The goal of Zahi Havas’ peтιтion is to return stolen Egyptian artifacts to their country of origin. At least one million signatures are expected to be collected. The campaign is part of a wider movement to raise awareness of Egypt’s lost heritage and the importance of returning it to its rightful owners.

“The National Committee of Egypt demands the return of the bust of Queen Neferтιтi. This is a letter containing a peтιтion, which I want all those who are willing to sign. In this way, you will show that you would like the return to happen”, archaeologist Zahi Havas is quoted as saying, foreign media reports.

The bust was discovered at Tel el Amarn, 300 kilometers south of Cairo. It was the capital of Queen Neferтιтi’s husband, Pharaoh Akhenaten (AmenH๏τep IV) from the 18th dynasty. He was known as the heretic king.

Promoted the worship of Athena above all other Egyptian gods during his reign, which lasted until 1335, and was characterized by a radical transformation of Egyptian art.

“International law, although unfair, allows us to return the bust of Queen Neferтιтi to Egypt. We have submitted all the evidence collected on this matter”, said Havaa.

The peтιтion will be handed over to the German authorities when one million signatures have been collected. Although it remains to be seen whether this will be achieved, this is an important step in Egypt’s efforts to return the artifacts and reclaim its cultural idenтιтy. Zahi Havas says that his goal is to return the three exhibits.

“I have said on several occasions that museums continue to practice imperialism because our heritage was taken over by the French and the British. I want three main objects to be returned to Egypt. Besides the bust of Queen Neferтιтi, the Rosetta Stone from the British Museum and the Zodiac from Dendera from the Louvre Museum,” said Havas.

So far, there is no comment from the Neue Museum in Berlin regarding the launched peтιтion.
