Josh Allen has opened up about the fateful day he proposed to Hailee Steinfeld.
The star Bills quarterback popped the question to the singer and actress in late November.
In her Beau Society newsletter, Steinfeld conducted a Q&A with Allen about how he planned the grand proposal.
“The funniest thing was that we woke up and were getting ready for brunch and you jumped on the bed and said, ‘Can we get married already?!? What are you waiting for??!’” Allen said, as covered by E! News.
“I replied, ‘Just give me a little more time.’ Little did you know I was about to propose to you.”
While cool on the outside, the 28-year-old Allen was anxious that the surprise would be spoiled.
“I think I was most nervous about you finding out about the proposal,” he wrote. “It was hard to keep secrets from you and have other people in your life keep secrets from you. Multiple times throughout the day, a song would come on and I would tear up thinking about how special our day was going to be.”
To ward off the ʙuттerflies, Allen memorized the script of how he would propose beforehand.
“I said I couldn’t wait any longer,” Allen, who has quarterbacked the Bills to a 10-2 start, remembered. “I said I can’t wait to start a family with you. I said your full name, and I asked you very nicely. I said please.”
“I didn’t blow it nor did anyone else,” Allen continued. “You were extremely surprised, you said yes, and that was all that mattered to me.”
For her part, the 27-year-old Steinfeld still gets emotional about the proposal.
“All the happy tears have just barely dried,” she wrote. “Whenever we tell the story, look back at pH๏τos, or even say ‘We’re engaged’ or ‘We’re getting married’ I start crying.”
