Maria Callas: Letters And Memoirs is a documentary following Monica and casts experiences performing the play of the same name from 2019 to 2023.
Monica and her team took the Paris play on a European and American tour, visiting London, Spoleto in Italy, Athens, Monaco, Los Angeles, New York, and many more.
The play tells the story of Maria Callas, an American-born Greek soprano who was one of the most renowned and influential opera singers of the 20th century.
Despite having an over 30-year career as an actress, Maria Callas: Letters and Memoirs marked Monica’s stage debut.
Monica, who suffers from stage fright, told Opera Wire of her role: ‘I knew the great singer, the performer. Even when I did Mozart in the Jungle, I approached Callas to get to know the atтιтude, like I did with [Anna] Netrebko and [Montserrat] Caballé.’
‘But I didn’t know anything about Maria, the story about Onᴀssis, or that she was an incredible diva Divina. But then, when Tom Volf came to me with this project, he gave me these letters, these memoirs, and I realised the woman, the person. It was a completely different story because I could get into her vulnerabilities and her sensibility.’

‘That’s why, even though it was my first time on stage when I read those letters and memoirs, I couldn’t resist. I said: “I’m scared, but I want to do it because those letters and memoirs really inspired me, and I want to share them with someone else.”‘
Maria Callas was born in 1923 and died in 1977 and enjoyed a romance with Jackie Kennedy’s second husband Aristotle Onᴀssis.
Monica and Tim have been dating since October 2023, and he directed her in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice – their first project together.
Monica has been married twice before and has two children; Tim also has two children but has been married once, though he enjoyed a long-term relationship with Helena Bonham Carter.
