REVEREND RICHARD COLES
I’m A Celeb’s Richard Coles has claimed actor and pal Dominic West was banned by wife Catherine FitzGerald from a royal bash at Clarence House due to his ‘controversial’ role in The Crown.
Dominic, 55, played the role of then Prince, now King, Charles during the Netflix show’s fifth and sixth seasons, which caused outrage over its rewriting of history and relationships.
While discussing royal connections Richard explained Catherine, a well-known garden designer, was on the guest list for a reception hosted by the then Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Camilla.
But when her famous husband asked if he could tag along, claimed: ‘She said no because he’d just been cast as Charles in The Crown, And it was that season of The Crown that dealt with Diana and it was all a bit controversial and everything’.
He was eventually allowed to attend but had to ‘stand at the back’ and when approached by Camilla said: ‘hello your highness’ to which she quipped: ‘Hello YOUR highness’.

MailOnline have contacted Dominic West’s reps for comment.
During Dominic’s stint in the show viewers have hit out at The Crown for scenes depicting Princess Diana’s ghost (Elizabeth Debicki) talking to King Charles and the late Queen Elizabeth (Imelda Staunton).
In the controversial episode, Princess Diana is seen chatting on a yacht with her boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed (Khalid Abdalla) when she likens her wedding day to Charles to stepping on a landmine.
Yet a royal biographer has insisted the late Princess would never have made such a comparison.
Even Judi Dench, 89, who has played Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria, the Netflix series risked damaging the monarchy.
The Oscar-winning actress blamed it for ‘crude sensationalism’ and blurring fact and fiction in a dramatic intervention in the row over the show’s rewriting of history.
This came after serious five included the separation of Prince Charles and Princess Diana. As well as Charles lobbying then-prime minister Sir John Major over the potential abdication of his mother. Sir John has described the scenes as ‘a barrel-load of malicious nonsense’.
Dame Judi warned such scenes would be ‘cruelly unjust’ and that there’s a danger that viewers would believe it presented an accurate version of history.

She added: ‘No one is a greater believer in artistic freedom than I, but this cannot go unchallenged.

‘The programme makers have resisted all calls for them to carry a disclaimer at the start of each episode. The time has come for Netflix to reconsider – for the sake of a family and a nation so recently bereaved, as a mark of respect to a sovereign who served her people so dutifully for 70 years, and to preserve their own reputation in the eyes of their British subscribers.’
The Crown has been a huge hit for Netflix, and it now spends around £11.5million per episode.
In 2020, the then-culture secretary Oliver Dowden asked Netflix for a ‘health warning’ on episodes so viewers would know scenes were fictionalised, but Netflix refused. It defended the show this week as ‘fictional dramatisation’.

The tanks of water were gradually filled with the likes of mud crabs, eels, crocodiles and water dragons, while their head bubbles were filled with spiders and snakes.
They seemingly had very different tactics to endure the critics and while Melvin closed his eyes and hummed, Oti squealed in horror, never the less the pair managed to win 12 stars for camp with just 5 seconds to go before the klaxon sounded.
Finally having her head bubble removed Oti was able to open her mouth and scream, while a delighted Melvin gave Geordie duo Ant and Dec a high five.
Full of praise, Ant said: ‘You can now call yourselves the new king and queen of the Bushtucker Trial!’
