Real Housewives of New York took a rather surprising turn on Tuesday’s new episode, when Erin Lichy and Jenna Lyons revealed their abortion stories.

The 37-year-old Lichy and 56-year-old Lyons were having lunch during the episode, when Erin revealed she was approached by Glamour magazine to give an interview about abortion rights.

The reality star revealed that she had an abortion when she was just 18, two weeks into college, when Lyons surprised Lichy by telling her own story.

Fans praised the ladies for their authenticity in the chat, though some thought it was odd given the pregnancy prank Lichy just pulled. 

Others praised Lichy for an emotional conversation she had with her father, just four months before he pᴀssed away.

Lichy revealed that she’s close friends with Glamour Magazine editor Sam Barry, when she revealed her abortion story to her.

‘We were talking about policies, and I was saying how upset I am that Roe V. Wade fell, and I was just opening up to her about what I went through,’ Lichy began.

‘And she was like, “Well, you’d be really surprised. Nobody talks about it,”‘ Lichy said in confession.

Lichy told Lyons, ‘People don’t really talk about getting an abortion. It’s still kind of taboo,’ as Lyons told her she was ‘proud’ of her for doing that.

Lichy admitted being ‘scared’ of the reception she’d get, but Lyons insisted more people would thank her for telling her story.

Lichy explained, ‘I start school, I’m two weeks in, I move in, and all of a sudden, I find out I’m pregnant. I was terrified. It was the hardest decision I’ve ever made. It was heart wrenching,’ before Lyons revealed her own, ‘crazy story,’ which stunned Lichy.

‘Well, when I was 21, we were, you know, doing the thing. And I said, “Listen, like, you have to pull out, you have to pull out.” It’s like literally the prime time. And he got excited, and he forgot,’ Lyons explained of how she got pregnant.

‘I can picture it exactly where we were. It makes my voice shake. I would have a kid now who’s like…,’ Lyons said as Lichy admitted, ‘I know. I think about it all the time.’

I think because I could see that she felt scared and I want her to feel like she’s not alone. And I also want her to know that I understand. It’s a really, really hard thing to go through.’

Lichy said with a twinge of emotion, in confession, ‘Jenna telling me this story, it just made me feel like I’m supported, you know? Like, you’re now telling everyone your story, which I could have never imagined. You know, she didn’t have to do that.’

Many fans showed their support for the ladies telling their abortion stories like @BingeingBravo, who said, ‘Erin and Jenna omfg THANK YOU for telling your stories.’

Others like @TeaWithMandi praised Erin for her emotional conversation with her father before his death, adding, ‘I was not expecting to sob during Erin’s conversation with her dad. His approval meant everything to her.’

@thom_ahs admitted, ‘I applaud Jenna & Erin for talking about abortion so openly on camera about their experience. In this day and age, it’s so important to speak about it & keep that conversation alive to make sure rights are codified.’

Still, others like @linusvpelt accused Erin of ‘self-producing,’ adding ‘I really try every episode to get behind Erin and root for her because I can see she’s a lovely girl with a big heart, but if she’s gonna continue on I’m gonna need her to stop self producing. Just show us the good and the bad and let the chips fall where they may.’
