Deebo Samuel addresses Kyle Shanahan H๏τ-seat chatter

Deebo Samuel can’t believe the idea that Kyle Shanahan would be on the H๏τ seat.

Chatter has started to percolate that this could be Shanhan’s final year in San Francisco if the team’s season continues to head on a downward trajectory and they miss the playoffs a year after making the Super Bowl out of the NFC.

On his “Cleats and Convos with Deebo Samuel” podcast, the star 49ers wideout was asked about the idea that Shanahan could be out at the end of the year.

“I don’t think so. Since I’ve been here I think we just had one losing season, and that was COVID,” Samuel said. “You can sit back here and harp on everyone being injured that year.”

Samuel mentioned that he had a broken foot and the team also had injuries with Jimmy Garoppolo, Trent Williams and Jauan Jennings.

“Other than that, you can’t show me a losing season that he’s had since I’ve been here,” Samuel continued.

“First year, Super Bowl. Second year, I mean COVID hit. Year after that, NFC Championship. Year after that, NFC Championship again. Last year, Super Bowl. So it’s like, why are you saying he’s in the H๏τ seat? At the end of the day, we’re 5-6 right now, but we’ve got like six, seven games ahead.”

“At the end of the day, Kyle is one the smartest, most player [friendly] coaches you can ask for. I don’t get into who’s on the H๏τ seat … I just look at it from me being in the building every day. Even though we’re kind of behind the 8-ball right now, he don’t look at it that way.”

The 49ers lost to the Packers this past Sunday and the Seahawks the week before.

San Francisco has been bitten badly by the injury bug this season.

Against the Packers, 49ers were missing quarterback Brock Purdy, left tackle Trent Williams and pᴀss rusher Nick Bosa.

Wideout Brandon Aiyuk is out for the year, and Christian McCaffrey missed the team’s first eight games.

The silver lining for the 49ers is that even at 5-6 they are far from out of it.

In the NFC West, they are just a game behind the 6-5 Cardinals and Seahawks for the division lead, with six games left to play.
