BBC show The Jetty is ‘in talks for a second series’ despite viewers fuming over audio issues – as show star Jenna Coleman ‘takes a break’ afrer giving birth

Gritty thriller, The Jetty, is reportedly in talks for a second series despite fans fuming over audio issues during the first season. 

The BBC one crime drama, which starred Jenna Coleman, debuted in July and attracted over eight millions viewers through its first aired episode and on catch up. 

And it is now reportedly in talks for another season, although it BBC executives are still in the early stages. 

A TV insider told The Sun: ‘There are several hoops they need to jump through before it gets to the stage where it will definitely happen.

‘Leading lady Jenna, who was also an executive producer on the drama, has recently had a child with partner Jamie Childs and so is likely to be taking a break from work for some time.

‘But anyone who watched the first series will also know that continuing the story will be tricky, but not impossible.’

Despite the talks, the source confirmed that even if the drama was given the green light, filming would not start until late in year 2025. 

The news may have come as surprise for fans as they slammed just minutes into the opening episode after it aired in July.

Jenna made her debut as a detective, suffered dozens of complaints from fans over audio issues.

Fans shared their disappointment on X, claiming they couldn’t understand the narrative due to constant ‘mumbling’.

Hopes to be the next hit thriller quickly plummeted after the four-part drama kicked off with sound and quality issues.

Viewers flooded social media with comments to see if fellow watchers were suffering, with some penning: ‘The lighting, the sound, the dialogue and the acting. All terrible. #TheJetty’,

‘Am I the only one finding #TheJetty hard to pick up ? Is it the sound ? The accents ? Are they mumbling ? #BBCOne’,

‘#thejetty is potentially an engaging drama although understanding was marred by the rapid mumbling speaking style. What happened to clear enunciation?’,

Detective Manning is forced to try and work out what connects a podcast journalist investigating a cold cast to an illicit relationship between a man in his twenties and two underage girls.

As much a coming-of-age story as a detective thriller, The Jetty asks big questions about Sєxual morality, idenтιтy and memory, in the places that Me Too has left behind. 

The offical synopsis reads: ‘When a fire tears through a property in a scenic Lancashire lake town, Detective Ember Manning must work out how it connects to a podcast journalist investigating a missing persons cold case and an illicit relationship between a man in his twenties and two underage girls’. 

‘But as Ember gets close to the truth, it threatens to destroy her life – forcing her to re-evaluate everything she thought she knew about her past, present and the town she’s always called home’. 

‘As much a coming-of-age story as a detective thriller, The Jetty asks big questions about Sєxual morality, idenтιтy and memory, in the places that Me Too has left behind’.

The series, written and created by Cat Jones, also stars Happy Valley’s Amelia Bullmore, The Terror’s Matthew McNulty and The Witch star Ralph Ineson.

Jenna previously told the BBC of the project: ‘Working with BBC and Firebird Pictures on bringing the complex and enigmatic character of Ember Manning to life has been an incredible experience. 

‘I can’t wait for everyone to meet this new heroine and to find out what’s lurking beneath the surface of The Jetty.’

Jenna announced she was pregnant with her first child last week at a dinner to celebrate the opening of the new exhibition ‘Imaginary Conversations: An ERDEM Collection Inspired by Duchess Deborah’, at Chatsworth House.

Looking gorgeous in a green floral dress, Jenna cradled her bump as she posed for pH๏τos at the historic venue.
