The Mystery of the Barabar Caves: Ancient Perfection

The history of India dates back more than 5,000 years, and it is one of the most amazing and mysterious cultures in the world. Here there are some impressive constructions known as the Barabar Caves, which according to historical records are more than a millennium old. They were excavated from solid granite and carved with such precision that they seem to have been worked with advanced technology.

India, a place of great enigmas In India it is completely normal to find ancient temples and objects that are very surprising because they are significantly advanced for the time in which they were made. In fact, scientists do not find answers regarding discoveries of some artifacts they have made. The Barabar Caves What are they and what is so special about them? It is a group of caves excavated in a rock that are located in the state of Bijar, in the eastern part of India. In total, seven structures with the same characteristics can be found, the oldest dating from the Maurya period. It is believed that the oldest excavated caves that exist in India are those from the Maurya period. They date back to the 3rd century BC, 2 of them are from the period of Emperor Ashoka (who reigned between 273 and 232 BC). These structures have been very important, not only for their extraordinary architecture, but also for their inscriptions. Location of the seven caves The structures known as: Karan Chaupar, Sudama, Lomas Richi and Visvakarma, can be found on the Barabar Hill.

While the other three are located in Nagarjuni, a hill that is close to Barabar, however, many people consider the Nagarjuni caves to be a separate group of caves. Details about the extraordinary buildings According to research, the caves were carved out of solid granite rock almost two millennia ago. What is most striking is that the buildings have truly unique finishes, and the cuts and angles made of stone are quite astonishing. Some have even thought that they used some kind of advanced machinery that we do not know about. However, many researchers mention that the technology that existed at that time would not have been able to develop these fascinating structures. So, who were the workers? Is it possible that they were designed and manufactured by advanced civilizations? It seems that the answer is an unsolved mystery.

Mysterious cave divisions Most caves had 2 divisions, it is believed that the first chamber was used to shelter large groups of believers. The second chamber was very different, it looked like a kind of mound that houses relics, the entire interior surface of the enclosure was highly polished and finely finished. Due to this Mauryan polishing, a truly amazing echo effect could be witnessed inside. For believers at that time, this must have produced unique sensations while they were gathered together

An incomplete work The Barabar caves are located near the north of Bodh Gaya, this was a sacred place for Buddhists. It is said that Buddha attained enlightenment at this site. In addition, they are linked to the Mauryan King Ashoka, and to the Rishi hill structure. But in neither of the two chambers are there inscriptions of Ashoka, and this is because it seems that the work on the enclosure was not finished. The hypothesis proposed by the researchers is that possibly the problems with the structure are due to the fact that the work began when the Mauryan Empire ended. However, after the murder of the last Mauryan emperor occurred, the work on the site stopped, so it was completely uninhabited. And later it was occupied by Buddhists, however, it seems that it was the only one that ended up being the home of believers. What were the other structures used for? In the other caves, Ashokan inscriptions have been found, which show that they were initially Indian schools of thought. But over the years they were forgotten and today they are called “Ajivika”. This was recorded by the king, who recorded that the cave was handed over to the monks of Ajivika. A secret bunker?
On the other hand, there is a popular belief that the site was a secret bunker where someone very important was sheltered. In fact, the idea that they were built by advanced technology is promoted because no one has managed to explain how they were able to build such mᴀssive structures. They also have an interior that seems made to provide protection from the elements, even from nuclear explosions. Today, the Barabar Caves are a very popular tourist destination that has been preserved over the centuries.
