Ethan Slater may have taken the longest in the hair and makeup chair of the Wicked cast.
Slater, 32, opened up about getting ready to play Boq, a Munchkin, in Wicked while chatting with Today on Friday, November 22. “One of my first days on set, I had a hair consultation with Frances [Hannon],” Slater explained, noting that the movie’s hair designer told him they had two possible visions for the Munchkins: “Bright blue hair or red curly hair with freckles and brown eyes.”
Slater, who naturally has those features, was hoping that Hannon would go with red hair, thinking it would be “a lot easier” for him to get ready. “Turns out, it wasn’t and I had to be in the hair and makeup chair for two and a half hours every day,” Slater quipped.
The Today newscasters then pointed out that Slater spent more time in the chair than Cynthia Erivo, who had to be painted green to play Elphaba.

“I can’t quite figure it out. She obviously had a much bigger transformation to do but my hair became really structured and architectural,” Slater said. “It took some time to get those curls up.”

Erivo, 37, previously opened up about how long it takes her to be painted green while making an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, sharing it could take up to nearly five hours. “If it was just the head, hands [and] neck, it would be two hours and 45 minutes to three hours,” she said. “If it was full body, it would take four hours and 30 minutes.”
