Guy Ritchie’s big-budget TV set ‘robbed in broad daylight’ as thieves ‘speed off with expensive camera equipment’

Guy Ritchie’s big-budget set for his new TV show has been targeted by thieves.

The British director, 56, is currently filming his Paramount+ project The ᴀssociate, starring Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan.

However, while production crew and security were on site in London, thieves managed to escape with the camera equipment.

It has been reported that two men in Toyota Prius distracted people by asking for directions before speeding off with the expensive equipment.

Speaking about the incident, a source told The Sun: ‘Their questions distracted people and at that moment, the other bloke jumped out and grabbed a bag of camera equipment that was on the side of the road.

‘He jumped back in the car and they sped off. The security guards started going bananas because they’d basically been robbed in broad daylight. It was pretty embarrᴀssing and a costly mistake. The kit on those films isn’t cheap.’

Plans for Guy’s new series were first revealed this year, with the Lock Stock director signing up Helen and Pierce to star in it.

The synopsis says it will follow the story of ‘two generations of gangsters, the businesses they run, the complex relationships they weave, and the man they call upon to fix their problems’.

Guy will be counting on the show to be a hit following the success of his drama The Gentleman, which was released earlier this year.

Back in July, he broke record views on Netflix with the hit series after it reached 44million views in just four weeks.

It seems Netflix bosses are eager to bring a sequel to screens – potentially reuniting the main stars which include Theo James, Kaya Scodelario, Ray Winstone, as well as Daniel Ings and Vinnie Jones.

The action comedy show is reportedly ‘already in talks to deliver a second series’ – as ‘Netflix chiefs are keen for a sequel’.

‘It’s going to be quite a challenge getting the same actors back together, but Netflix chiefs are keen for a sequel,’ a source told The Sun.

‘Another hurdle will be securing Guy for the series as he already has several movie projects in the pipeline this year.

‘But the success of series one has already convinced them there’s huge potential for a follow-up.’

Hollywood sensation Guy has crafted a fresh take on his 2019 movie, but features an entirely new cast of characters.

Ray Winstone, 67, stars as Bobby Glᴀss, a career criminal from the East End of London who founded an industrial cannabis empire.

Meanwhile Theo, 39, plays Edward Horniman – who inherits ‘his father’s sizeable estate only to discover’ it’s a ‘weed empire owned by the legendary Mickey Pearson’ – and Daniel, 38, plays his disinherited eldest brother Freddie.

In an endless series of twists and turns, a host of unsavory characters from Britain’s criminal underworld want a piece of Eddie’s operation.

Ray and Theo star alongside the likes of Chanel Cresswell, Joely Richardson and Gaia Weiss, as well as Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito, which plays a sly wealthy entrepreneur.

Kaya, 32, plays Susie Glᴀss – Ray’s character Bobby’s effortlessly stylish and steely daughter who runs the day-to-day business of her father’s empire.

Speaking before the release of series one, Guy said: ‘The world of ‘The Gentlemen’ is a little bit of me, I’m thrilled that with Netflix, Miramax and Moonage we have this opportunity to inhabit it once again.

‘We’re looking forward to bringing fans back into that world, introducing new characters and their stories and I am excited to be doing it with this extremely talented cast.’

As well as creating the TV series adaptation, Guy also directed the first two episodes.

The 2019 movie starred Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Michelle Dockery, Colin Farrell, Jeremy Strong, Henry Golding, and Hugh Grant among many others.

It proved to be a box office success, grossing just over $115 million against a reported budget of $22 million.
