10-Year-Old Celebrates Birthday by Giving Hope to Children with Cancer

After overcoming leukemia at just 6 years old, Pearl-Monroe, lovingly known as Roe Roe, has turned every birthday into an opportunity to help children facing the same battle she once did.
Instead of asking for gifts, Roe Roe invites family, friends, and supporters to donate to the pediatric oncology clinic where she received treatment. This year, the 10-year-old raised an incredible $10,000 in just 48 hours, continuing a tradition that began the day she completed two years of cancer treatment.
“Because the hospital helped me get better, and I wanted to help them too,” Roe Roe shared.

The annual fundraiser supports the hospital that cared for her and has grown into a larger mission through Roe Roe’s Heroes, a foundation created by her family to bring comfort and encouragement to children with cancer.
One of the foundation’s most meaningful projects is the Hero Library, which provides books to young patients and their families. Inspired by the books Roe Roe received during treatment, the library offers stories that help children and siblings cope with the emotional challenges of cancer.
Her father, Chad Tucker, said he never imagined her simple birthday idea would inspire so many people.
“When she raised $10,000 in less than 48 hours, that’s when I realized this had become something much bigger than our family,” he said.
Roe Roe’s journey has also inspired acts of kindness beyond the fundraiser. During her treatment, Chad joined the bone marrow donor registry and was later matched with a woman in Australia who was battling leukemia. She has since recovered, a reminder of how one decision can change another person’s life.
Now cancer-free at age 10, Roe Roe hopes her story encourages other children who are still fighting.
“I hope they see hope,” she said. “I want them to feel like they’re not alone.”
Every birthday is now more than a celebration—it is a chance to give hope back to the children and families who need it most.
