🔥 THE DOCTOR WHO SHOULDN’T HAVE BEEN THERE — PART 2
The cameras showed nothing. Then a three-year-old pointed at the one man everyone trusted.
By midnight, the mansion no longer felt like a home.
Every door was locked.
Every employee had been questioned.
Every guest had been searched before leaving.
The security room smelled of stale coffee and cold air from the monitors.
Dominic stood in front of the screens with his arms crossed.
I sat in the corner, holding Lily.
She had fallen asleep against my shoulder.
Her little rabbit-shaped hair clip was crooked.
She looked completely unaware that she had just prevented a murder.
The security chief rewound the footage.
Again.
And again.
The kitchen.
The service corridor.
The dining room.
Nothing.
No stranger.
No suspicious movement.
No silver box.
Dominic’s patience was disappearing.
“Run it again.”
The footage rolled.
The cake left the kitchen.
Dr. Harris walked beside it.
My eyes narrowed.
Something about Lily’s story wouldn’t leave me.
Then my daughter stirred.
Her eyelids fluttered open.
She stared at the screen.
Suddenly, she lifted her head.
“There.”
Everyone turned.
Lily pointed at the monitor.
“That man.”
The room went silent.
The camera showed Dr. Harris walking beside the cake.
Dominic slowly turned toward him.
“You’re saying that’s him?”
Lily nodded.
“He had the little box.”
Dr. Harris went pale.
“That child is mistaken.”
Lily shook her head.
“No.”
Her tiny voice was firm.
“You put the white stuff on the cake.”
Dominic took one step forward.
The doctor backed away.
“You tested the frosting,” Dominic said.
Harris swallowed.
“I was following procedure.”
“You knew what was in it.”
“I didn’t—”
“Don’t.”
Dominic’s voice was quiet.
That was when everyone became more afraid.
Because shouting wasn’t Dominic’s dangerous voice.
Whispering was.
Dr. Harris glanced toward the door.
Two guards immediately blocked it.
Then footsteps sounded in the hallway.
Ethan appeared.
His face was pale.
“Dad?”
Dominic turned.
“What are you doing awake?”
Ethan looked at Dr. Harris.
Then at me.
“He told me not to tell you.”
Dominic’s expression changed.
“Tell me what?”
Ethan rubbed his sleeve between his fingers.
“Dr. Harris told me Lily wasn’t supposed to be at the party tonight.”
My stomach тιԍнтened.
“Why?”
Ethan looked at Lily.
“She wasn’t invited.”
Dominic’s eyes narrowed.
“Who told you that?”
Ethan pointed at Dr. Harris.
“He did.”
Nobody spoke.
Dominic turned slowly toward the doctor.
“Why?”
Harris’s face had gone completely white.
“I didn’t want the girl here.”
“Why?”
Harris said nothing.
Dominic stepped closer.
“Who asked you to keep Lily away from my son’s birthday?”
The doctor stared at the floor.
Then his shoulders collapsed.
“You don’t understand.”
Dominic’s voice became almost gentle.
“Then help me understand.”
Harris looked toward the security cameras.
“I wasn’t trying to kill Ethan.”
Dominic’s jaw тιԍнтened.
“Then what were you trying to do?”
Harris looked at Lily.
“She wasn’t supposed to see me.”
My blood ran cold.
Dominic followed his gaze.
“See you doing what?”
The doctor finally whispered—
“Putting something on the cake.”
Silence.
Dominic looked at his son.
Then at Lily.
Then back at the doctor.
The truth was beginning to surface.
And whatever had been planned that night was bigger than a poisoned birthday cake.
Because Dr. Harris hadn’t been trying to hide what he put on Ethan’s cake.
He had been trying to hide it from one particular witness.
A three-year-old girl who wasn’t even supposed to be in the room.
