When Danielle Bailey was just four years old, doctors feared she wouldn’t survive a devastating illness.

Her condition became so critical that her family was told she had only 48 hours to live. Although the illness eventually claimed both of her hands and both of her legs, it never took away her determination to build the life she had always dreamed of.

Today, Danielle is not only a survivor—she is also the proud mother of her baby boy, Teddy Twist.

Growing up in Otley, Leeds, Danielle often struggled with self-doubt.

Watching friends begin relationships made her wonder whether anyone would ever see beyond her disability.

“I always wanted to be a mum,” Danielle said. “But for a long time, I didn’t think it would ever happen.”

As she grew older, however, her confidence gradually blossomed.

“Eventually I realized that someone would love me for who I am.”

That person turned out to be Tom, whom she met one October evening at a local pub.

“He never cared that I’m an amputee,” Danielle said. “From the very beginning, he showed me what real love looks like.”

Not long afterward, Danielle discovered she was expecting her first child.

Although she was overjoyed, the news also brought understandable worries.

“I was anxious,” she admitted. “I wondered what people would think. I worried whether I’d be able to care for my baby without hands.”

She also feared others might question her ability to be a good mother simply because of her disability.

But the moment Teddy was born, those fears began to disappear.

“As soon as he came into the world, I knew I could do it,” she said. “Everything came naturally.”

While becoming a mother brought new challenges, Danielle quickly discovered that she was fully capable of caring for her son.

“I’ve never let my disability hold me back,” she explained.

The only adjustment she regularly makes is placing the container of baby formula on its side so she can scoop it more easily.

“That’s really the only thing I do differently,” she said with a smile.

Danielle also credits Tom for being a loving and supportive partner throughout their parenting journey.

Looking back on everything she has overcome, Danielle hopes her story encourages others living with disabilities to believe in themselves.

“Looking different doesn’t mean you can’t have the same dreams as everyone else,” she said. “You can still build the life you want.”

Becoming Teddy’s mother has transformed her outlook on life.

“He’s made me realize just how precious life is,” Danielle shared. “I can’t imagine life without him. He’s given me more confidence than I’ve ever had before.”

Instead of worrying about the opinions of others, Danielle now focuses on what matters most.

“My goal is simply to be the best mum I can be and give Teddy a wonderful life.”

She says the support from her hometown has been overwhelming, and she is always happy to encourage other people with disabilities who dream of becoming parents.

“If anyone is worried because of their disability,” Danielle said, *”I want them to know that it’s possible. I’m living proof that you can do it.” 💙🌈
