💙🙏 ‘We Aren’t Finished Fighting’: New Hope Emerges for Teen Cancer Patient Will Roberts After Emergency Treatment Appeal
After an emotional day in which his family believed they had reached the end of available options, 15-year-old Alabama teenager Will Roberts has been given a renewed reason to hope.
Will, who is battling Stage 4 osteosarcoma, has inspired thousands through his determination and the unwavering support of his family. In recent weeks, they traveled to California so he could receive DeltaRex-G, an experimental treatment they believed was showing encouraging signs before his condition became too unstable to continue therapy.
For more than two weeks, Will has remained off the treatment while doctors monitored his condition and his family prayed for his strength to improve. During that difficult period, they were also preparing for the possibility of returning home to Alabama so Will could be surrounded by those closest to him.
Then, late one evening, everything changed.
According to Will’s mother, Brittney, the family received an unexpected phone call from Dr. Gordon while Will was undergoing a CT scan. The physician shared that she had spoken with a chief medical doctor at Rady Children’s Hospital and that an emergency appeal was being prepared for submission to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
If approved, the request would allow DeltaRex-G to be administered at Rady Children’s Hospital, giving Will the opportunity to resume the experimental therapy.
Brittney said Dr. Gordon was prepared to travel more than two hours to San Diego to help begin treatment as soon as authorization is granted.
Perhaps the most encouraging part of the conversation came when the family was told that the hospital had not given up on Will and remained committed to helping him continue his fight.
For a family that only hours earlier believed every option had been exhausted, the development represented a dramatic shift in outlook. Brittney later described the moment in simple but powerful words, calling it “a miracle.”
Although important challenges remain, including the results of Will’s CT scan and the pending FDA decision, the family says they are choosing hope over despair.
Supporters across the country continue to share messages of encouragement while praying for positive news in the days ahead. Many are hoping the emergency appeal will move forward quickly, allowing Will to resume treatment without delay.
Despite the uncertainty that still lies ahead, one message from the Roberts family remains clear. They are grateful for every opportunity, every prayer, and every person standing beside them.
As Brittney wrote while updating those following Will’s journey, “We aren’t finished fighting.”
