💙🌈 From Every Parent’s Nightmare to Finding Hope: Patrick’s Inspiring Journey 👶❤️

What began as one of the happiest days of Keri and Andy’s lives quickly became every parent’s worst nightmare.
Their son, Patrick, was born unexpectedly at home in a breech delivery, arriving before medical help could reach the family. With no immediate medical ᴀssistance available, the birth took a devastating turn, leaving Patrick with a serious brain injury. 💔
“Everything happened so fast,” Keri recalls. “I never imagined that anything could be wrong.”
When emergency responders arrived, Patrick was rushed to the hospital, while his parents endured agonizing hours before they were finally allowed to see him.

Doctors warned them to prepare for the worst.
The following days were filled with uncertainty as Patrick lay surrounded by tubes, monitors, and life-saving equipment.
“You hear words like ‘brain injury’ and ‘seizures,’ but nothing really prepares you for what they mean,” Keri says.
As Patrick slowly fought for his life, doctors suggested something Keri never expected—a referral to Acorns Children’s Hospice.
At first, she was devastated.
“When I heard the words ‘children’s hospice,’ I thought it was a place where children went to die,” she admits. “I didn’t want to go. I didn’t want to believe we belonged there.”

But everything changed the moment they walked through the doors. 💙
“It felt like being wrapped in warmth,” Keri remembers. “Everyone was so welcoming.”
One quiet moment convinced her she had found exactly the place her family needed.
While looking for the restroom, she happened to see a nurse gently singing songs and chatting with a child as if they had all the time in the world.
“She didn’t even know I was watching,” Keri says. “That’s when I realized this was somewhere truly special.” ❤️
Today, Acorns provides Patrick with individualized medical care, symptom management, and opportunities to enjoy life through hydrotherapy, sensory play, and rehabilitation activities designed specifically for his needs. 🏊🎨✨
Patrick was later diagnosed with Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE), a type of brain injury caused when the brain is deprived of oxygen or blood flow before, during, or shortly after birth.
Despite the challenges he faces, Patrick continues to make progress with the support of his family and the dedicated hospice team.
For Keri, Acorns has become an essential part of their lives.
“Life without hospice care would be impossible,” she says. “I can’t imagine families like ours facing this journey without that support.”
She now speaks publicly about the importance of ensuring long-term funding for children’s hospice services so that every family facing similar challenges can receive the same compᴀssionate care.
“What I know for certain,” she says, “is that we’ll always need Acorns.” 💙
Patrick’s story is a powerful reminder that even after life’s most frightening moments, kindness, expert care, and unwavering support can help families find hope again.
Sometimes, the place we fear the most becomes the place that helps us heal. 🌈💙
