💔🚗 Madera County Crash Claims Two Young Lives as Family Honors Bobby Criado’s Final Gift

A tragic collision in Madera County has left two families grieving after an accident claimed the lives of 18-year-old Esmeralda Gutierrez and 19-year-old Bobby Criado.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash occurred shortly after 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the intersection of Avenue 17 and Highway 28½.

Investigators said Esmeralda Gutierrez was driving a white 2018 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on Avenue 17 when the vehicle entered the intersection and collided with a southbound black 2019 Jeep Wrangler traveling on Highway 28½, which had the right-of-way.

The impact caused both vehicles to continue southeast, where they struck a parked vehicle and a support pole attached to a nearby residence before coming to rest.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Esmeralda was pronounced ᴅᴇᴀᴅ at the scene.

Bobby Criado, 19, who was riding as a pᴀssenger in the Chevrolet, was transported to a hospital with critical injuries. Although medical teams worked to save him, his family later shared through a GoFundMe update that his injuries were not survivable.

Despite the devastating loss, Bobby’s family announced that he would become an organ donor. A Walk of Honor has been scheduled to recognize his final act of generosity, as hospital staff, loved ones, and supporters gather to pay tribute before the donation process begins. Organ donation offers the possibility of saving or improving the lives of others, allowing Bobby’s legacy to continue through those he may help.

Authorities reported that another 21-year-old woman riding in the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries and was transported for medical evaluation. The driver and pᴀssenger of the Jeep Wrangler also suffered minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

According to CHP investigators, there is currently no indication that alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation as officers continue gathering evidence and reviewing the events leading up to the collision.

The tragedy has deeply affected family members, friends, and the surrounding community, who are mourning two young lives lost far too soon.
