💔🔥 PART 2: MY HUSBAND’S MISTRESS WASN’T THE ONLY BETRAYER—THE BANKER’S NEXT WORDS DESTROYED EVERYTHING BENNETT THOUGHT HE CONTROLLED
The ballroom fell silent.
I stared at the banker, unable to believe what I had just heard.
“Who authorized the transfers?” I whispered.
He glanced toward Bennett’s mother.
“Mrs. Victoria Sterling.”
A collective gasp swept through the room.
Victoria gripped the edge of the table. “This is absurd! I would never do such a thing!”
But the banker calmly opened his briefcase and removed several documents.
“Your signature appears on the authorization forms for the offshore accounts. We also have records showing that funds from the Sterling Foundation were transferred into companies connected to Mr. Sterling and Miss Vale.”
Bennett looked at his mother in disbelief.
“Mother? You told me those accounts were protected!”
For the first time that evening, Victoria had nothing to say.
Madison suddenly stepped forward, tears streaming down her face.
“Bennett, you promised me everything was legal!”
He turned on her. “You knew exactly what we were doing!”
“I knew about the affair,” she cried. “I knew you wanted your wife’s shares. But you told me the money belonged to you!”
The room erupted in whispers.
I stood on the stage, watching the people who had spent years treating me like an ornamental wife begin turning against one another.
Yet I felt no satisfaction.
Only exhaustion.
Six years of love had been reduced to a collection of lies, forged signatures, and people who had smiled at me while planning my destruction.
Then the banker handed me one final envelope.
“Mrs. Sterling, your attorney instructed us to deliver this only after the accounts were frozen.”
Inside was a copy of a document dated three years earlier.
My signature appeared at the bottom.
But I had never seen it before.
According to the document, I had voluntarily transferred my controlling interest in Sterling Holdings to a private investment company.
If valid, I would lose the company my father had helped me build long before Bennett entered my life.
I looked at the banker.
“Can you prove this signature is forged?”
“We already have preliminary findings from a forensic examiner. Your attorney has the complete report.”
Bennett suddenly stopped arguing.
His expression changed.
Not into anger.
Into fear.
Because he finally understood that I had discovered more than his affair.
I had discovered the one thing he had spent years trying to hide.
“Celeste,” he said, approaching me with a forced smile, “we can discuss this privately. We’re married. We don’t need to destroy each other in front of everyone.”
I looked at him for a long moment.
“Were you thinking about our marriage when you kissed Madison?”
He said nothing.
“Were you thinking about me when you forged my signature?”
His jaw тιԍнтened.
“Those documents are complicated. You don’t understand the business—”
“Then explain it to the police.”
His face went white.
At that moment, two investigators entered the ballroom and approached the banker. They asked Bennett and Victoria to accompany them for questioning regarding the suspected financial misconduct.
Bennett looked around desperately, searching for someone willing to defend him.
No one moved.
Then he turned toward me.
“You planned this from the beginning.”
“No,” I answered quietly. “You planned to take everything from me. I simply stopped making it easy.”
As he was escorted toward the exit, Madison suddenly called after him.
“You told me she had no power! You said the company would belong to us!”
Bennett spun around.
“Shut your mouth!”
But Madison had already reached into her silver handbag.
“I have something else,” she announced, her voice shaking. “Something Bennett doesn’t know I kept.”
She pulled out a small flash drive.
Victoria stared at it in horror.
“Madison, don’t you dare.”
The room went silent again.
Madison looked directly at me.
“This contains the original recordings of their meetings. The real reason they needed your signature. And proof that the foundation was only the beginning.”
My heart began pounding.
“What do you mean, the beginning?”
She swallowed hard.
“Bennett wasn’t just planning to steal your shares, Celeste. He was preparing to blame you for every missing dollar.”
Then she turned toward Victoria.
“And your mother-in-law was the one who suggested it.”
I felt the ground shift beneath me.
Before I could respond, my phone rang.
Amelia’s name appeared on the screen.
I answered immediately.
“Celeste,” she said urgently, “don’t let anyone leave with that flash drive. I’ve just received a message from the forensic team.”
“What is it?”
There was a long pause.
Then Amelia whispered the words that changed everything.
“The forged documents weren’t created to steal your company. They were created to make you look guilty of a crime that happened six years ago—before you ever married Bennett.”
I stared at the screen.
Six years ago, I had been a different woman.
I had trusted my family. I had believed my father’s death was an accident. And I had never questioned why Bennett had appeared in my life just months afterward.
Now, for the first time, I wondered whether our marriage had ever been a coincidence.
Across the ballroom, Victoria was already moving toward the exit.
I stepped down from the stage and blocked her path.
“Where are you going?”
She looked at me, and the mask of elegance finally slipped.
“You have no idea what your father did,” she whispered.
I froze.
“My father?”
Victoria leaned closer, her eyes filled with something I had never seen before.
Fear.
“Ask Bennett why he married you, Celeste.”
Then she pushed past me and disappeared into the crowd.
I turned toward the investigators.
But Bennett was gone.
And so was Madison.
Only the flash drive remained on the stage, beside my abandoned champagne glá´€ss.
I picked it up with trembling fingers.
There was a single label on it, written in black ink:
PROJECT CELESTE — ORIGINAL RECORDINGS.
For six years, I had believed I was the wife who had been betrayed.
Now I was beginning to suspect that I had been the target of a plan long before I ever walked down the aisle.
And when Amelia called back thirty seconds later, her first sentence made my blood run cold.
“Celeste, we found your father’s final letter. He named the man who would eventually destroy your life—and it’s not Bennett.”
