A summer evening on the water was supposed to create happy family memories.

On Sunday, July 19, 2026, siblings Mya Bella Golabek, 9, and Sigmund “Siggy” Paul Golabek, 7, were involved in a boating accident near Berkeley Township in the Barnegat Bay area.

According to New Jersey State Police, the family’s 30-foot vessel struck a channel marker shortly after 9 p.m., sending both children into the water.

Emergency crews quickly responded. Firefighters entered the water to ᴀssist, while the children were located and transported to a hospital in Toms River.

Despite extensive efforts, Mya and Siggy could not be saved. 🕊️
