πŸ’Œ The Vase Was Never the Point: What They Hid Under the Porcelain πŸ•―οΈ

Vincent rushed to his daughter and lifted her away from the broken porcelain. Then something slid from beneath the shattered base. A yellowed, sealed envelope.

Chiara’s expression changed immediately. β€œDaddy… I’m sorry.”

Before Vincent could examine it, Stefano lunged for the envelope. β€œGive me that envelope.”

Vincent reached it first. When Stefano attacked him, Vincent put him down. Chiara tried to seize the envelope next, but Vincent stopped her too.

Then he stood over them, still holding it unopened.

β€œYou didn’t care about the vase. You were terrified of what was under it.”

Chiara went pale. Vincent kept the envelope sealed in his hand.

He did not open it in front of them. He did not ask another question. He already had the only answer that mattered: the crash had not been an accident of clumsy hands. It had been a race to bury something before he could see it.

He left them on the floor and took the envelope into the study.

The seal cracked with a dry sound, older than Chiara’s apology.

Inside was his late wife’s handwritingβ€”and beneath the letter, papers they were never meant to let him find. A second will. A transfer. Names that turned Stefano from a guest in the house into a thief who had used a child as cover.

Vincent read it once.

Then he folded everything back into the envelope, exactly as it had been hidden under the vase.

When he returned to the room, Chiara was still sitting in the porcelain dust. Stefano had not gotten up.

Vincent did not raise his voice.

He only set the opened envelope on the table between them, where both of them could see that the seal was gone, and that the thing they had been willing to fight him for was no longer a secret.

The vase could be replaced.

What they had hidden under it could not.
