❤️ Abandoned at Birth Because of a Rare Skin Condition, She Grew Up to Change Lives Around the World

When Mui Thomas entered the world, many believed her future had already been decided.

She was born with harlequin ichthyosis, an extremely rare genetic disorder that causes the skin to grow up to 14 times faster than normal, creating painful, thick plates of skin that require lifelong medical care.

Doctors gave her little chance of surviving beyond childhood.

Her biological parents, overwhelmed by her condition, abandoned her shortly after she was born.

For many children, that might have been the end of the story.

For Mui, it was only the beginning.

At the age of three, she was adopted by Roger and Tina Thomas, a loving couple from Hong Kong who looked beyond her appearance and saw a little girl deserving of love, opportunity, and hope.

Growing up wasn’t easy.

Mui endured years of bullying, hurtful comments, and people staring because she looked different.

There were moments when the prejudice felt overwhelming.

But her parents never allowed her to believe that her condition defined who she was.

Instead, they encouraged her to dream bigger than anyone expected.

And she did.

Against incredible odds, Mui made history by becoming the world’s first female rugby referee living with harlequin ichthyosis, proving that courage, determination, and talent matter far more than appearance.

Yet her greatest achievement may not be found on the rugby field.

Today, Mui is an internationally recognized advocate, speaker, and founder of “The Girl Behind The Face,” a campaign dedicated to fighting bullying, challenging stereotypes, and encouraging people to embrace physical differences with compᴀssion rather than judgment.

Through schools, public events, and global speaking engagements, she reminds audiences that every scar tells a story, every face deserves respect, and every person deserves the chance to be seen for who they truly are.

Mui Thomas didn’t change the world because her condition disappeared.

She changed it because she refused to let it define her.
