What began as a Fourth of July celebration on a Texas lake quickly became a life-threatening emergency, but the swift actions of an off-duty firefighter helped bring three young children safely back to their families.

According to authorities, Midlothian firefighter and paramedic Jason Horne was enjoying the holiday with his family at Alvarado Lake when another boat carrying nine people overturned. During the incident, three children between the ages of 3 and 5 became trapped beneath the vessel.

Determined to ensure no one remained trapped, Horne entered the water a third time.

According to published reports, the final child had become entangled in the boat’s anchor line. After bringing the boy to shore, Horne immediately continued emergency care until the child’s pulse returned before additional emergency crews arrived.

Authorities later confirmed that all three children survived and were transported to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Following the rescue, Horne shared a safety lesson he has always emphasized with his own four children.

“I can find you if you’re floating. I can’t find you if you sink,” he said, explaining why he has always insisted that his children wear properly fitted life jackets whenever they are on the water.

The remarkable rescue has drawn praise from both the community and the Midlothian Fire Department, which commended Horne for stepping forward without hesitation and representing the department with honor, professionalism, and compᴀssion.
