‼️ At just 2½ years old, Ahmad suddenly fell while playing outside with his little brother. Within moments, his family realized he could no longer walk. What they discovered afterward would change their lives forever.

Ahmad is now 4 years old and battling Stage 4 diffuse midline glioma, or DMG, an aggressive form of brain cancer. His grandmother, Val, says doctors have told the family that surgically removing the tumor is not an option because attempting to do so could put his life at serious risk.

For more than a year, Ahmad and the people who love him have been living with a reality no family should have to face.

There had been no obvious warning signs before that frightening day. Ahmad had been outside playing in the grᴀss with his younger brother when he fell. At first, his family may have thought it was an ordinary childhood accident. But when Ahmad could not get back on his feet or walk independently, the situation became much more serious.

His family rushed him to an emergency room. Val says she was not comfortable with the explanation they initially received, so she contacted Ahmad’s doctor and continued pushing for answers.

Eventually, an MRI revealed the devastating diagnosis: diffuse midline glioma.

Ahmad was sent to Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago, where his family says his medical team has cared for him for more than a year. Because of the location of his tumor, Val says doctors cannot safely operate.

Instead, Ahmad’s family has had to place their hope in treatment and radiation while knowing the tumor remains inside their little boy.

The illness has changed nearly every part of their daily lives. Val says most days are difficult for Ahmad. He requires care around the clock and can barely attend preschool even one day a week.

For his grandmother, watching him struggle has been heartbreaking.

“As her mother and his grandmother, I’m doing everything possible to support them,” Val shared.

That is why she decided to tell Ahmad’s story.

She is not asking strangers to solve something medicine cannot simply fix. She is asking people to remember a 4-year-old boy who has already spent more than a year fighting a devastating illness.

She wants Ahmad surrounded by prayers, love and hope.
