LAKELAND, FLORIDA — A 3-month-old boy ded after being found unresponsive inside his home, and investigators now allege that his mother caused the injuries that led to his dath.

Jessica Vlasac, 42, was arrested on Sept. 10 in connection with the infant’s d*ath.

The investigation began shortly before midnight on Sept. 6, when police were called to Vlasac’s Lakeland home after the baby was found unresponsive.

He was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced d*ad shortly afterward.

According to investigators, Vlasac initially gave police an explanation for what had happened.

She reportedly said she had fallen asleep with her infant and later woke to find him face down and cold.

But the subsequent autopsy reportedly raised serious questions about that account.

Investigators said the examination revealed multiple head injuries and bleeding on the baby’s brain.

One of the injuries reportedly included an L-shaped mark that detectives believed appeared consistent with contact from a square-shaped object.

That detail led investigators to another piece of evidence.

Detectives reportedly noticed that Vlasac was wearing a large square diamond ring.

Authorities seized the ring as part of the investigation as they examined whether its shape could be consistent with the injury described in the autopsy findings.

Investigators also cited messages they say were written by Vlasac.

According to authorities, some messages allegedly contained statements in which she said she had killed her son. Investigators said some of those messages were later deleted.

The evidence became part of a case that shifted dramatically from an initial report of an unresponsive infant to an investigation into an alleged fatal ᴀssault.

Vlasac was arrested on Sept. 10.

She is currently being held in the Polk County Jail without bond as the case moves through the court system.

The allegations against her remain allegations unless and until proven in court.

At the center of the case, however, is a baby who was only 3 months old.

He had barely begun his life.

He should have had years ahead of him—first smiles, first words, first steps, birthdays and countless ordinary moments with the people who loved him.

Instead, his life ended inside the home where investigators are now trying to reconstruct exactly what happened.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities examine the medical evidence, the seized ring, the alleged messages and Vlasac’s original account of the baby’s final moments.

For a family, those questions may never erase the pain of losing a child so young.
