A 22-year-old Memphis babysitter has been indicted following a May 2025 incident that left a toddler in her care with severe burns and requiring extensive medical treatment.

The child, identified as Aquria, was just 2 years old when she was injured.

According to the information provided in the case, Aquria suffered burns covering more than 30% of her body. Her injuries were serious enough to require hospitalization and an airlift to Vanderbilt, where she received specialized medical care.

For a young child, the road to recovery has been anything but easy.

But Aquria survived.

Today, she is recovering under the care of her great-grandmother, Tracy Sims, who has stepped forward to help guide the little girl through another difficult chapter of her young life.

Authorities have indicted Shatonia Wallace on charges of aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect.

Wallace is currently being held on $100,000 bond as the case proceeds through the courts.

The charges are serious, but they remain allegations. Wallace is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
