What began as a tiny, heart-shaped mark beside a newborn’s eye soon became every parent’s greatest fear.

When Colby Ramos-Francis was born, his mother, Aimee, noticed a small pink birthmark resting gently on his eyelid. At first, it seemed like nothing more than a unique feature that made her baby even more special.

“We’re just so grateful,” Jamie said. “Grateful to everyone who helped us, grateful to the doctors, and grateful that Colby now has the chance to simply be a little boy.”

“There were times when we felt completely helpless,” she reflected. “Now when I look at him, I don’t think about everything we’ve been through—I think about everything that’s still ahead of him.”
