๐ Mustafaโs Dream to Walk: A Father and Son Defying the Odds Together ๐ฃ

Born without all four limbs due to the rare congenital condition tetra-amelia syndrome, little Mustafa faces challenges few children could imagine. Yet his dreams remain beautifully simple. He wants to go to school, ride in a car, and one day live like other children his age.
His father, Munzir El Nezzel, understands those challenges all too well. Munzir lost his right leg in a bombing in Idlib, Syria, in 2014. After years of conflict, the family fled to Turkey, where they faced life as refugees while trying to find medical care and a sense of stability.
Mustafaโs condition has been linked to medications his mother took during pregnancy after she was exposed to nerve gas during the conflict. Despite the circumstances surrounding his birth, his father has remained determined to give him the best possible future.

Their extraordinary bond captured the world through a powerful pHเนฯograph taken by Turkish pHเนฯographer Mehmet Aslan. In the image, Munzir, balancing on crutches, lifts his smiling son high into the air. ัฮนัled Hardship of Life, the pHเนฯograph won PHเนฯo of the Year at the Siena International PHเนฯo Awards and brought international attention to their story.
The pHเนฯograph also helped change their lives. A crowdfunding campaign raised around โฌ100,000, helping open the door to specialized prosthetic care. In January 2022, the family traveled to Italy on a humanitarian visa and settled in Tuscany, where specialists at Centro Protesi Inail began developing prosthetic solutions for both father and son.
For Munzir, regaining greater mobility was expected to be relatively straightforward. Mustafaโs journey, however, would be much more complex. His treatment began with upper-limb prosthetics, with specialists also exploring ways to improve his mobility and independence.
Through every challenge, Mustafaโs dreams have remained strong. He has spoken about wanting to attend school and, one day, even go to university. For Munzir, one of his greatest hopes is simply to see his children receive an education and someday share a hug with his son as he gains greater independence.
Their story is about far more than war, disability, or medical challenges. It is about a father who refuses to give up on his child and a little boy whose dreams remain bigger than the obstacles standing in his way.
Together, Munzir and Mustafa continue to show that even after unimaginable hardship, hope can still find a way forward. ๐โจ
