The family of Joseph Mendoza is calling for accountability after the 36-year-old died during a violent attack inside California’s Salinas Valley State Prison earlier this year.

According to a civil rights lawsuit filed by his family, Mendoza was fatally attacked on April 8 while inside a prison day room. The lawsuit alleges that he was stabbed more than 170 times during an ᴀssault that lasted several minutes.
