💙 2-Year-Old Boy Awaits Rare Heart-and-Double-Lung Transplant: “He Needs a Miracle,” His Parents Say 🙏

💙 Alexander’s Fight for a Miracle: 2-Year-Old Awaits Rare Heart-and-Double-Lung Transplant 🙏
At just 2 years old, Alexander Petrilli is facing one of the most difficult medical battles of his young life. The Florida toddler is awaiting an exceptionally rare combination transplant—a new heart and both lungs—as doctors work to keep him stable.
Alexander was born in December 2023 with transposition of the great arteries (TGA), a serious congenital heart defect in which the heart’s two main arteries are switched. Although he underwent treatment, complications later developed, including severe pulmonary hypertension that has placed tremendous strain on both his heart and lungs.
He is now receiving specialized care at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, where doctors are preparing him for the possibility of a combined heart-and-double-lung transplant. Such procedures are uncommon in young children and can be especially challenging because doctors must find organs that are an appropriate size match while navigating the complexity of the surgery.

In a recent update, Alexander’s mother, Kayla, shared that her son has been fitted with a Berlin Heart, an external mechanical pump designed to support the left side of his heart. The device is helping doctors stabilize him while they work to manage the dangerous pressure in his lungs.
Despite everything he has endured, Alexander continues to show remarkable strength. PH๏τos from his hospital journey capture him surrounded by medical equipment and monitors, but also reveal brighter moments—including a sweet smile as he holds a book.
His parents, Michael and Kayla Petrilli, continue to advocate for their son and hold onto hope as they wait for a suitable donor. For this little boy and his family, every day is a reminder of how precious life can be—and how much a second chance could mean. 💙🙏
