A toddler should never have to fear the place she calls home.
But prosecutors said loud music was allegedly used to drown out the sounds coming from a Peoria home.
Behind the court case was a little girl who should have had an entire lifetime ahead of her.

On February 1, 2022, 2-year-old Emorri Green lost her life inside a home in Peoria, Illinois, in a case that would later be ruled a homicide.

According to prosecutors, Emorri’s father, Shamari Williams, became angry after the toddler urinated on the living room couch.

What happened afterward was devastating.

During court proceedings, testimony described severe blunt-force injuries to Emorri’s body, including bleeding in her brain and serious internal injuries. A forensic pathologist testified that the injuries were not consistent with what would normally be considered a simple spanking.

One allegation from the case was particularly disturbing.

Prosecutors said Williams turned the music up loudly during the incident, allegedly in an effort to prevent neighbors from hearing the child.

Emorri was just two years old.

At that age, children depend entirely on the adults around them. They need someone to comfort them when they are frightened, protect them when they are vulnerable, and keep them safe when they cannot protect themselves.

For Emorri, prosecutors said that trust was tragically broken.

Williams was initially arrested on an aggravated battery charge. After Emorri’s death was determined to be a homicide, the case was elevated and he was charged with first-degree murder.

In May 2024, Williams pleaded guilty.

On August 2, 2024, he was sentenced to 70 years in prison. Court records indicated that he was required to serve 100% of the sentence.

The legal case eventually reached its conclusion, but for Emorri’s loved ones, the loss cannot be measured in years.

No prison sentence can bring back the little girl they lost.

No courtroom can give her another birthday.

No verdict can restore the ordinary future that should have been waiting for her.

Emorri should have had so many firsts ahead of her.
