In January 2018, Amedy Dewey was riding in a car with her mother and stepfather in Michigan when an argument suddenly escalated.

Her mother, Lisa, warned her that her stepfather had a gn. Amedy tried to move into the back seat and call 911, but before she could, she was sht in the face. 💔

Lisa was k*lled shortly afterward, while Amedy survived and her stepfather later took his own life.

The injuries left Amedy facing an extraordinarily long road to recovery.

Over the following years, she underwent 37 reconstructive surgeries as doctors worked to rebuild parts of her face and restore basic functions.

Then came a moment that might have seemed incredibly ordinary to anyone else.

After a major operation in November 2024 using bone from her leg to reconstruct her upper jaw, Amedy was finally able to eat solid food normally again. 🥹

A simple bite of food had taken seven years and dozens of surgeries to become possible.

But Amedy’s story didn’t end with recovery.

❤️ She began speaking publicly about domestic violence, g*n safety and mental health while working toward a future as a trauma therapist, hoping to help others recognize dangerous situations and find support before it is too late.

For years, her life had revolved around surgeries and recovery.
