💔🙏 DOCTORS GAVE BABY IRIS JUST 2–7 DAYS TO LIVE — 34 DAYS LATER, SHE’S STILL FIGHTING
Doctors expected baby Iris to live only two to seven days. Her parents took their 3-pound newborn home on hospice, preparing themselves for the possibility that every moment together could be their last. But 34 days later, Iris Faith is still here. ❤️
Iris was born on July 16 with Trisomy 18, also known as Edwards syndrome, a serious genetic condition that can cause significant medical complications.
Just two days after her birth, her father, Tony, says the family was sent home with hospice care, an NG feeding tube, and the devastating expectation that their daughter might have only days to live.
But Iris had other plans.
During her first week and a half, Tony says the tiny newborn did remarkably well.
Then her condition began changing.
She needed supplemental oxygen to maintain her levels, and her family made repeated trips to Birmingham as her health became more concerning.
During the first two hospital visits, Tony says doctors told the family there was little more they could do and encouraged them to take Iris home, keep her comfortable, and prepare to let her go.
For her parents, those conversations were heartbreaking.
Imagine carrying your newborn out of a hospital after being told that her life may be coming to an end — while looking at a tiny baby who is still breathing, still fighting, and still giving you reasons to hope. 💔
Tony says he and Iris’ mother prayed about what they should do.
Ultimately, they felt they could not stop fighting while their daughter was still fighting herself.
So they brought Iris back.
She is now receiving care at UAB in Birmingham, where specialists are evaluating her condition.
According to Tony, doctors recently performed a spinal tap to investigate the possibility of an infection. The family is now waiting for answers while taking Iris’ journey one day at a time.
Through all the uncertainty, one detail about this little girl feels especially meaningful.
Her parents named her Iris Faith. ❤️
Before they knew how much strength they would need, they had already given their daughter a name that represented something they would eventually cling to through the hardest moments.
Today, Iris is 34 days old.
She has already lived far beyond the two to seven days her parents were told to expect.
Her parents are exhausted.
They are frightened.
They know there are still serious challenges ahead.
But they are not giving up.
Tony reached out hoping people would join the family in prayer.
So please pray for Iris Faith.
Pray for her tiny body.
Pray for answers from her testing.
Pray for the specialists caring for her.
Pray for wisdom for her medical team.
And pray for strength for her parents as they navigate decisions no parent should ever have to make. 🙏💗
Thirty-four days ago, they were told they might only have days with their daughter. Tonight, Iris is still here.
And as long as this little girl keeps fighting, her family says they will keep fighting right beside her.
If you’re praying for Iris, leave a ❤️ or 🙏 below and share her story so more people can surround this family with hope and faith.
