💔🙏 A Mother Lost Her First Daughter to Seizures — Now Her 9-Month-Old Baby Is Facing a Frighteningly Similar Fight
Look closely at these two little girls.
On one side is 9-month-old Kayliah.
On the other is her big sister, Kalani, pH๏τographed shortly before she pᴀssed away.
Their mother, Cá´€ssandra, says both girls developed a frightening and ongoing type of seizure activity.
In September 2023, Cá´€ssandra lost Kalani after her daughter suffered multiple brain injuries while experiencing seizures.
Now, Cá´€ssandra is watching what appears to be a terrifyingly similar situation unfold with her second daughter.
And she is terrified.
Kayliah is only 9 months old.
Her family says she is experiencing ongoing seizures and has been diagnosed with a condition they identify as Epilepsia Partialis Continua, or EPC.
Cá´€ssandra reached out from Lawton, Oklahoma, with one desperate request:
Help us find someone who can figure out what is happening to our baby.
The family has already taken Kayliah to two different hospitals in search of answers.
They still don’t have them.
According to Cᴀssandra, much of Kayliah’s testing has returned normal, despite her parents witnessing frightening and very real episodes involving their daughter.
Her most recent MRI has raised even more concerns.
Cᴀssandra says Kayliah’s head continues to grow, but her brain is not keeping pace with that growth or maturing as doctors would normally expect.
For any parent, that would be terrifying.
For Cá´€ssandra, it carries an especially painful weight.
She has already lived through this kind of fear.
She has already watched one daughter become critically ill.
She has already buried Kalani.
And now she is desperately trying to prevent history from repeating itself.
“We have already experienced the unimaginable once. We are doing everything in our power not to experience it again.”
That is why Cᴀssandra is asking people to share Kayliah’s story far beyond their own community.
The family is looking for physicians and specialists experienced with EPC and complex pediatric epilepsy.
They are also hoping to connect with experts in neurogenetic, metabolic, inflammatory, autoimmune and rare neurological conditions.
And they are willing to travel anywhere if it means getting closer to an answer.
They are not asking strangers to diagnose their daughter online.
They are asking for help finding the people who may have the knowledge, experience or resources to investigate a case this complicated.
Because somewhere, there may be a doctor who has seen something similar.
There may be a researcher studying a rare neurological condition.
There may be another family who traveled a similar road and knows which specialist finally helped their child.
That connection could matter enormously to Kayliah’s family.
Cá´€ssandra says she couldn’t get the answers she desperately needed before losing Kalani.
She is begging for the opportunity to find those answers in time for Kayliah.
“We just need this to reach the right person. Our daughter’s life depends on it.”
Those words explain why sharing this story matters.
If you are a doctor, nurse, researcher or medical professional connected to pediatric epilepsy or complex neurology, please consider getting this story in front of the appropriate specialists.
If you are a parent who has faced a similar medical journey, share what helped your child with the family through appropriate channels.
And if you don’t know anyone who can help, you can still do something.
Share.
You never know who may see it.
You may know someone who knows someone who has exactly the connection this family needs.
Above all, please keep Kayliah in your prayers.
Pray that her seizures can be controlled.
Pray that doctors find answers.
Pray that the right specialist sees her case.
Pray for wisdom for everyone caring for this little girl.
And pray for Cᴀssandra and her family as they face a fear no parent should ever have to experience — the possibility of losing another child.
Kalani’s story cannot be changed.
But Kayliah’s story is still being written.
There is still time to search for answers. There is still time to fight for this baby girl. 🤍🙏
