💰 THE RANSOM NOTE
One of the strangest pieces of the investigation is a message that appeared to come from Nancy’s alleged kidnappers.

The note was addressed to Savannah and demanded $4 million in Bitcoin, threatening to increase the amount to $6 million if payment was not made by a later ᴅᴇᴀᴅline.

The writer claimed Nancy was “safe but scared” and said she would be released after payment.

But then came something investigators found unusual.

The message essentially closed the door on further communication.

There would be no negotiation.

No additional contact.

And no opportunity for the family to receive proof that Nancy was still alive.

That detail caught the attention of retired FBI negotiator Jason Pack, who told Fox News that the communication pattern did not fit what he would normally expect in a traditional ransom kidnapping.

In a genuine ransom situation, kidnappers generally need communication to remain open. They need a way to negotiate, maintain pressure, and demonstrate that the victim is still alive.

So why demand millions of dollars — and then tell the family there would be no more communication?

💔 THEN ANOTHER NOTE APPEARED
Four days later, another message was sent to a Tucson television station.

This time, the tone was completely different.

The writer claimed Nancy had died shortly after being taken, possibly because of her fragile health.

The message said she had been “buried in nature.”

But again, there was no proof of life.

And there was no independently verified evidence proving that Nancy had died.

Authorities eventually released both notes publicly on July 31, hoping that someone might recognize the writer based on distinctive wording, sentence structure, or writing style.

🔎 ARE THE NOTES EVEN REAL?
This may be one of the biggest questions surrounding the case.

In June, a federal law-enforcement official told Reuters that the kidnapping-related messages that had surfaced publicly were considered fake.

But the FBI later issued a more cautious statement.

The agency said some ransom messages had been determined to be illegitimate extortion attempts, while other ransom demands might potentially be legitimate and remained under investigation.

At the same time, authorities continued treating Nancy’s disappearance as a kidnapping-for-ransom investigation.

That distinction matters.

Because despite the disturbing messages, investigators have not publicly established that any of them came from the person or people responsible for Nancy’s disappearance.

🕵️ WHAT DO INVESTIGATORS ACTUALLY KNOW?
Publicly available evidence remains limited.

Investigators have examined DNA evidence, surveillance footage, discarded gloves, thousands of tips, and numerous videos.

A pair of gloves found roughly two miles from Nancy’s home initially attracted attention because they appeared similar to those worn by the masked figure. But the DNA was ultimately traced to a local restaurant worker who authorities said was not connected to the investigation.

Search teams have also explored areas around southern Arizona, including locations near the U.S.-Mexico border.

But no confirmed trace of Nancy has been found.

No suspect has been charged.

And no one has been publicly identified as responsible.
