After several days of testimony focused on Lindsay Clancy’s mental health, her defense has rested its case in the high-profile Mᴀssachusetts trial.

Clancy is accused of killing her three young children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months — in January 2023. Her defense does not dispute that she caused their deaths. Instead, attorneys argue that she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis and therefore was not criminally responsible for her actions.

The defense’s final major witness was forensic psychiatrist Dr. Phillip Resnick, who testified that Clancy was experiencing psychosis at the time and was unable to control her behavior. He described her as being influenced by hallucinations and delusional beliefs.

The prosecution strongly disagrees.

Its experts have acknowledged that Clancy suffered from significant mental-health problems, including depression, anxiety and other psychiatric symptoms, but testified that they found no clear evidence of psychosis and believed she understood the nature and wrongfulness of her actions.
