A baby girl born with two exceptionally rare congenital conditions is inspiring thousands after reaching a milestone her family once feared she would never achieve.

Little Alice Vitória was born with acrania, a condition in which part or all of the skull fails to develop, as well as occipital encephalocele, a rare birth defect that causes brain tissue and its protective covering to protrude through an opening at the back of the head.

From the moment she entered the world on July 15, Alice’s future was uncertain. Despite the daunting prognosis, she has continued to defy expectations with every pᴀssing day.

Determined to give their daughter every possible chance, her mother, Stefanny Cristina, launched an online fundraising campaign to help pay for the complex surgery Alice urgently needed. Their story touched hearts across Brazil, where more than 4,000 people joined together to raise approximately R$125,000, making the life-changing operation possible.

Last week, the delicate procedure was successfully performed by neurosurgeon Dr. Alexandre Canheu.

Following the surgery, Alice recovered well enough to leave the intensive care unit, bringing overwhelming relief to her family after months of uncertainty.

Then came a moment that filled everyone with hope.

Just one week after surgery, Alice lifted her tiny head on her own for the very first time—a simple movement that meant the world to the people who had stood beside her throughout every challenge.

Sharing the emotional milestone, Stefanny wrote:

“After exactly one week following such a delicate surgery, something happened today that filled my heart with joy—Alice lifted her little head. What a beautiful moment. We felt supported and strengthened every step of the way.”
For her parents, that small achievement was a powerful reminder that every step forward—no matter how small—is worth celebrating.

Dr. Canheu also shared encouraging news, explaining that Alice continues to improve with each pᴀssing day. As her condition becomes more stable, doctors have begun gradually reducing her oxygen support, while physiotherapy will play an important role in the next stage of her recovery.

Although Alice still faces a long road ahead, her remarkable progress has become a symbol of resilience, hope, and the extraordinary kindness of thousands of strangers who came together to help give one little girl a chance.
