🌹💔 She Was Weeks Away From Meeting Her Baby: Family Mourns 17-Year-Old Jariah Edwards
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA — What was supposed to be a joyful chapter in 17-year-old Jariah Edwards’ life has become an unimaginable tragedy for her family.
Jariah, a teenager from Arizona, was visiting San Diego with relatives and was only a few weeks away from giving birth. Her family says she was excited about becoming a mother and looking forward to meeting her baby.
That future changed during the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to authorities, Jariah’s 21-year-old boyfriend, Trevon Williams, traveled separately to meet her outside the short-term rental where her family was staying. Relatives said he arrived with flowers and asked Jariah to come outside.
At approximately 1:10 a.m., San Diego police received multiple emergency calls reporting a shooting in the 4900 block of Gardena Avenue.
Officers arrived and found Jariah critically injured. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where medical teams immediately began efforts to save both her and her unborn child.
Doctors performed an emergency cesarean section in an attempt to deliver the baby. Jariah could not be saved, while her newborn daughter remained in critical condition, according to the family’s account.
The devastating news left relatives struggling to comprehend the loss of a young woman who had been preparing for motherhood.
“She was so excited to meet her baby,” a family member said. “Now, she and her unborn daughter are gone.”
Authorities say Williams fled the area after the incident, leading officers to conduct a search in the surrounding neighborhood. He was later located near September Street and taken into custody.
Police reported recovering a semiautomatic handgun at the time of his arrest. Williams was booked into the San Diego County Jail on suspicion of mâ–ˇrder and is expected to face the case in court.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released every detail surrounding the circumstances leading up to the incident.
For Jariah’s family, however, the legal proceedings are only one part of an overwhelming period of grief.
Her aunt described her as sweet, vibrant, and increasingly confident as she prepared to begin a new chapter of her life. Family members say Jariah was deeply excited about her daughter and had been looking forward to becoming a mother.
The tragedy has also renewed attention on the dangers of abusive relationships and the importance of recognizing warning signs, particularly when young women may be vulnerable or isolated.
Now, the family is focused on the newborn who remains in critical condition.
That tiny baby has become a fragile source of hope in the middle of devastating grief. ❤️‍🩹
Relatives are asking the community for prayers as they wait for updates on the child’s condition and begin the painful process of saying goodbye to Jariah.
