In the relentless war on drugs along the U.S.-Mexico border, idealistic FBI Special Agent Kate Macer (Emily Blunt) is thrust into a high-stakes operation that blurs the lines between justice and vengeance. After a horrifying raid in Arizona reveals dozens of corpses hidden in the walls of a cartel safe house, Kate joins a secretive joint task force led by enigmatic CIA officer Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) and the mysterious operative Alejandro Gillick (Benicio del Toro).

As the team crosses into the chaos of Ciudad Juárez, Kate quickly realizes that the rules of engagement have changed.
