Best Friends Both Give Birth to Baby Girls on the Same Day… on the Same Ward
What are the chances that two best friends, who have known each other for more than ten years, would end up giving birth to their baby girls not only on the same day, but also in the same hospital ward? For Fiona Gibson, 36, and Natalie Wood, 31, from Bretforton, Worcestershire, that unbelievable coincidence became reality in a moment neither of them could have predicted.
The two women first met as neighbours, living just a few houses apart, and quickly formed a close friendship that lasted through life changes, distance, and eventually motherhood. When they both discovered they were pregnant around the same time, they shared the excitement, comparing milestones and supporting each other throughout the journey.
Originally, their due dates were several days apart — Fiona was expected to deliver on January 9, while Natalie’s due date was January 3. Naturally, both assumed they would be welcoming their babies on different days, possibly even in different weeks. Even Fiona’s mother joked that they might end up giving birth on the same day, a comment that at the time felt like a playful exaggeration.
However, fate had other plans. Both pregnancies went beyond their expected due dates. Natalie was eventually taken in for an emergency caesarean section on January 13 and delivered her daughter, Enya, at 1:15am, weighing 6lb 14oz. Just hours later, Fiona arrived at the same hospital for her planned caesarean, carefully chosen for the memorable date of 14/1/14.
At midday, Fiona gave birth to her daughter, Xenia, who weighed 7lb 10oz. Remarkably, the two mothers found themselves recovering in the same ward, just a short distance apart, sharing one of the most emotional and unforgettable experiences of their lives side by side.
Despite the unexpected timing, both women described the experience as heartwarming rather than chaotic. They supported each other through recovery, exchanged updates about their newborns, and shared laughter about the extraordinary coincidence that brought them into motherhood almost simultaneously.
Their friendship has only deepened through this experience. Having once been neighbours and lifelong companions, they now share another lifelong bond — their daughters. The families hope Enya and Xenia will grow up close, just like their mothers, continuing a story of friendship that now spans generations.
