Geordie Shore star’s ex Talia Oatway breaks down in tears as she opens up on son Oakley’s terrifying brushes with death – suong
GEORDIE Shore star Aaron Chalmers’ ex Talia Oatway has broken down in tears after opening up on her son’s devastating health battle.
Talia and Aaron are parents to Oakley – who has suffered with Apert Syndrome since his birth.
It is a genetic disorder that causes fusion of the skull, hands and feet bones.
It has resulted in many complex additional needs for the little boy and he’s faced a slew of different surgeries to help support him in his early years.
Now, Talia has opened up on just some of the operations her young son has faced in a very tearful interview with Olivia Bentleyon the Private Parts Podcast.
The star got candid on the realities of being a medical mum in the emotional conversation.
Chatting to Olivia, Talia even confessed Oakley was close to death after suffering a fall.
She said: “He had a really really bad fall where he nearly died.
“It was not last year – the year before.
“He went for a routine Apert operation, which, would sound crazy to you, but they basically pull the forehead off.
They break it into pieces and try and put it back together to try and give his brain room to grow outwards.
“It was supposed to be a routine operation for an Apert child – we ended up down there seven weeks, he went into intensive care.
“He went into sepsis shock, he had meningitis and he had a total of five surgeries in the end.
“He’s developed fluid on the brain now so he has got a permanent drain in his brain.”
Olivia offered her condolences as Talia took a breath as she recalled her son’s plight.
As she asked Talia how she “held it together” for her three other children, Talia became tearful as she replied: “I think you just have no choice.”
She then began to break down into tears as Olivia also admitted she was ready to cry, saying: “It’s awful, it’s just so sad.”
Aiming to compose herself, Talia added: “I think it is just anything to do with Oakley, like, it just triggers everything.
“But this is the whole point about why I wanted to do it [the podcast] as people don’t see what actually goes on.”
Talia, 31 shares Oakley, Romeo, six and Maddox, four, with ex-boyfriend and Geordie Shore star Aaron Chalmers as well as having an elder daughter from a previous relationship.
