Wisconsin Mother Survives Brutal Domestic Attack While Holding Infant as Ex-Partner Faces Attempted Homicide Charges

WISCONSIN — A Wisconsin woman is recovering after surviving a violent domestic attack in which authorities say her ex-boyfriend stabbed her multiple times while she was holding their 11-month-old child.

According to law enforcement officials, the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Ivan Canchola-Garcia, is accused of carrying out a premeditated ᴀssault after allegedly purchasing a knife from a Walmart store shortly before the incident. Investigators believe the weapon was selected specifically for the attack.

The violent episode unfolded inside the victim’s home, where she was holding the couple’s infant child at the time of the ᴀssault. Police reports indicate that she suffered multiple stab wounds to her neck, shoulder, and armpit area during the attack. Despite the severity of her injuries, she survived and was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Authorities confirmed that, remarkably, the 11-month-old baby was not physically injured during the incident. However, officials described the scene as deeply traumatic for both first responders and neighbors who became aware of the situation shortly after the attack.

Following the incident, investigators allege that Canchola-Garcia attempted to conceal evidence. He reportedly disposed of the knife, gloves, and a mask used during the ᴀssault. Despite these efforts, law enforcement officers were able to recover key pieces of evidence during their investigation, which helped lead to his arrest.

Canchola-Garcia has been charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, domestic abuse-related offenses, and use of a dangerous weapon. Court records show he is currently being held in custody on a $1 million bond pending further legal proceedings.

Officials have not released additional details regarding the prior relationship between the suspect and the victim, but confirmed that the case is being treated as a targeted domestic violence incident.

Community members have expressed shock and concern over the brutality of the attack, particularly given the presence of an infant during the incident. Advocacy groups in the region have renewed calls for increased awareness and intervention resources for domestic violence situations, emphasizing how quickly such cases can escalate into life-threatening violence.

Law enforcement agencies are urging anyone experiencing domestic threats or abuse to seek immediate help and report concerns early, stressing that timely intervention can be critical in preventing tragedies.

As the investigation continues, the victim remains in recovery, and authorities say further updates will be released as the case moves through the court system.
