💔 “BEFORE HE WAS EVEN BORN… THEY HAD TO BLOCK HIS AIRWAY… JUST SO HE MIGHT LEARN HOW TO BREATHE.” 💔
Cylas’ story began long before his first breath—before his first cry, and even before his first moment in his parents’ arms. During pregnancy, doctors discovered a severe condition: a hole in his diaphragm that allowed abdominal organs to move into his chest, leaving little to no space for his lungs to properly develop.
The diagnosis meant his survival was uncertain from the very start.
To give him a fighting chance, specialists performed a rare and highly complex prenatal procedure. A tiny balloon was placed inside his airway and intentionally blocked. The goal was extraordinary: to stimulate lung growth while still in the womb, giving his body space to develop enough to survive after birth.
From that moment on, every scan brought anxiety. Every appointment carried uncertainty. There were no guarantees—only careful monitoring and hope.
When Cylas was finally born, there was no celebration in the usual sense. Instead, there was urgency. He was immediately placed under intensive medical care, beginning a long and difficult journey involving surgeries, machines, and constant monitoring.
He spent 145 days in intensive care, followed by another 79 days of continued recovery before he was even close to going home.
Even after leaving the hospital, his journey wasn’t over. Medical support still followed him, as breathing remained a challenge his body had to gradually learn on its own.
Yet through it all, Cylas continued to fight.
Today, he smiles when he hears music. He reaches for piano keys with small hands that have already endured more than most ever will. He laughs in moments of joy, as if his early battle never defined him.
But his story leaves behind a powerful question—how do you begin life already fighting for every breath, and still find a way to grow into joy?
