Her health began to deteriorate at the age of 25 after returning to Brazil, when she developed a condition so rare that doctors initially struggled to identify it. Even after diagnosis, there was no established cure, leaving her to endure years of complex and ongoing treatments.

Throughout her illness, Rita faced an extensive series of medical complications, including more than 20 intubations, seven strokes, five cardiac arrests, multiple thromboses, and recurring infections such as meningitis and encephalitis. At one point, she spent over three consecutive years hospitalized, losing significant physical abilities, including independent movement and breathing. ⚠️

Despite these challenges, Rita remained active on social media, where she documented her experience in detail. Through her platform, she built a community of more than 323,000 followers, many of whom found strength and encouragement in her openness and resilience. She often referred to her audience as being “together with little Rita,” creating a sense of shared journey and support. 💛

Her community also played a vital role in assisting her during moments when access to treatment was limited, including raising funds when certain medical expenses were not covered.

On March 14, Rita was again placed in critical care. She passed away on March 26, following what her family described as a journey marked by struggle, courage, and profound resilience.

Rita Ephrem’s life, though marked by hardship, became a source of inspiration for thousands, demonstrating the power of perseverance, community, and the human spirit even in the face of the most uncertain circumstances. ✨
