“Aimed at the Father, Taken from the Stroller”: 7-Month-Old Baby Killed in Daylight Shooting
What began as a routine family walk ended in unimaginable tragedy when a targeted act of violence claimed the life of an innocent child.
Seven-month-old Kaori Patterson Moore was sitting in her stroller beside her parents in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, when a moped approached around 1:20 p.m. Without warning, gunfire erupted, shattering the calm of the afternoon.
Investigators later determined the shooters were targeting Kaori’s father. But in a cruel and devastating turn, the bullets missed their intended target.
Instead, one struck Kaori in the head.
Her brother, who was nearby, was grazed in the back, narrowly escaping a far worse outcome. Witnesses initially mistook the sound for fireworks — until they saw the chaos unfold in front of them.
In those terrifying moments, Kaori’s mother grabbed her son, then turned to see her baby daughter bleeding in the stroller. Panic set in as the family rushed to get help.
Kaori was transported to the hospital, but despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at 1:46 p.m.
The suspects fled the scene on a moped, later crashing nearby. Authorities identified a person of interest, while another suspect managed to escape. Police believe the shooting is connected to an ongoing social media feud tied to rival housing complexes.
Now, a family is left grieving a loss that should never have happened.
Kaori had just begun reaching milestones — learning to speak, discovering the world around her. Those moments are now memories.
Her death stands as a painful reminder of how violence, even when targeted, can take the most innocent lives — in the most senseless way.
